But Jesus answered them, “You are wrong, because you know neither the Scriptures nor the power of God. For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven. And as for the resurrection of the dead, have you not read what was said to you by God: ‘I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’? He is not God of the dead, but of the living.”

Does God speak today? Jesus certainly taught so. When the Sadducees came to entrap Jesus, he didn’t just rebuke them by telling them that they were ignorant of the scriptures; he also told them that God was speaking to them.
How so? Look at the passage. Jesus tells the Sadducees that, “have you not read what was said to you by God,” and then he cites a passage from Exodus 3, where God spoke to Moses out of the bush. Except, God wasn’t just speaking Moses; God was also speaking to the Sadducees. Jesus says that it was “said to you.” Thus, Jesus explains that these words, which were written over a thousand years earlier, were coming from the very mouth of God and personally addressed to them.
And the Scriptures are not just addressed to them. Today, this very day, God is speaking to us, his beloved children. Paul says that “whatever was written in former days was written for our instruction” (Rom. 15:4).
Have you been waiting for God to speak to you? Do you yearn to hear your Father’s voice? Well then, open up your Bible and listen to him. He is right there waiting for you, and he has so much to teach you and tell you.
Don’t bother with all the garbage that is on the internet and TV. That has a shorter shelf-life than milk. Instead, listen to God. His word and his promises are eternal, personal, and therapeutic, the perfect remedy to all the problems that are besetting you today, the very words of life itself, holy, pure, and perfect forevermore.
There is a portal to heaven itself in your living room, waiting for you to open it. Go and open it.
